Painting and Dancing

I have this mixed media picture in several different stages, this being the most recent one. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied or not. I'm still working on it, but I thought I'd take a break from this particular project and look at it later with fresh eyes.

It is an 8x10 mixed media piece (image is set on a white matte border- image itself is smaller than 8x10). I have it focused on the "Dance" letters and softened everywhere else, but I'm not sure if I like that.

In other news, my brother just bought his first house and is having his house warming party this coming weekend! I'm so excited for him, and given our Irish heritage, I felt I needed to create something special for him as a house warming gift. The house and tree were hand-painted with acrylics, and the words were inserted using my lovely GIMP program.

It is available as a print in my Etsy shop, as well. I'm getting the matte print tomorrow. I think a glossy finish would take away from the earthy, homey style I was going for, and the matte will really pull the depth out.  What do you think?

What projects have you been finishing up?

From a Dream

I woke up this morning after having a really weird dream and immediately pulled out my sketch book. I haven't sketched like this in some time, so I was really blown away. I'm always really bad at angles, so I'm pleased with how it is coming along. Excuse the bad picture... I scanned the photo, but my pencil lines were so light that I had to do some major editing to get them to show up.

I'm trying to decide whether to use acrylics for this or try my hand at watercolors. Any thoughts?

Diving In!

I just keep telling myself, "I can do this," "I am doing this," over and over again. I've been creating art for myself for years, but I've never actually dove into the community or even the possibility that I could do this for real. Real.

Wow. I'm working on my debut piece for my new Etsy shop, The Inspirational Art of Elizabeth Barry, and I'll be getting it digitized and ready to sell soon! I'm so excited and so grateful for all the support in this endeavor!
